What the fare is made of

The price is set by the carrier. We show it exactly as the UZ system returns it, and add our own service fee on a line of its own where one applies.

What it is made of

The ticket - the part of the price that depends on the class of carriage and train and pays for moving the carriage.

The berth charge - the part that depends on the class of carriage and train and pays for preparing the carriage for the run and for service on board.

VAT - charged on the tariff amount and on services, but not on the insurance levy.

The insurance levy - compulsory personal accident insurance in transport (Cabinet of Ministers resolution no. 959 of 14 August 1996). It is taken from every passenger except those entitled to free travel and children under 6 without a seat of their own. It is shown on the ticket on a line of its own.

The commission - the carrier's charge for the act of issuing the ticket.

Bedding and other services - at the passenger's wish. In carriages with berths a set is added automatically and is included in the price; you can decline it in the order itself, and the charge comes off. Tea and coffee in sleeping carriages are charged for separately; water and the first-aid kit are free.

The ticket and berth rates vary by distance and by class of train and carriage.

Why the price changes from day to day

Indexation coefficients by calendar period, coefficients by day of the week, a coefficient depending on the date of sale and the number of seats still free, and - on the berth charge in a named train - a premium-train coefficient, are all applied to the ticket and berth amounts. This is not a mark-up of ours: the coefficients were approved by order no. 184 of the Ministry of Infrastructure of 20 April 2018 and are applied the same way everywhere.

The concession fare

The ticket and the berth charge are each multiplied by the discount coefficient separately: children from 6 to 14 - 0.75, students and pupils - 0.5, people with disabilities - 0.5. Rounding to the kopeck is done on each component separately. More in Concessions and discounts.

When no commission is charged

  • Where the fare (ticket plus berth charge), concession fares included, is less than the commission itself.
  • On tickets issued in exchange for vouchers - free or discounted.
  • On arranging and returning "luggage in hand".
  • On reserving seats for people entitled to priority and out-of-turn service.

On discounted tickets issued against identity documents rather than vouchers, the commission is charged on the ordinary basis. Reserving seats for groups of children and for concession categories is paid for exactly as it is for full-fare passengers.

Our service fee

This is rail.ua's own remuneration for booking, separate from the fare. Where it applies you see it on a line of its own before you pay, rather than finding it in the receipt afterwards. Where it does not apply, you pay exactly the carrier's fare. The terms are in the Public offer.
