Concessions and discounts
Concessions are set neither by the carrier nor by us, but by the laws of Ukraine and by Cabinet of Ministers resolutions. The full list is annex 2 to the Carriage rules; the main points from it are below.
How it works
A concession is either free travel or a reduction in price. The concession fare is worked out by multiplying the ticket amount and the berth charge separately by the discount coefficient.
The original document is required. A concession or free ticket is issued only on production of the original document establishing the entitlement, and the same original is checked at boarding. A passenger holding a concession ticket without the original counts as travelling without a ticket.
Only in Ukrainian carriages. The discount applies to travel within Ukraine in the carriages of Ukrainian carriers. In the carriages of foreign railways the discount applies to the ticket amount only, and the berth charge is paid in full.
Seasonal concessions. Discounts granted for the period from 1 October to 15 May are issued for departure dates no earlier than 1 October and no later than 15 May.
A free or concession ticket is personal: it belongs only to the person whose certificate number is on it, and is not transferable to anybody, close relatives included.

On suburban services
Free travel regardless of place of residence is available in particular to: people with a war-related disability of all groups and those treated as equivalent; combatants; people with disabilities and children with disabilities together with an escort; parents of service personnel killed in action; those affected by the Chornobyl disaster; orphans and children deprived of parental care; children from large families; old-age pensioners; veterans of military service, of the internal affairs bodies, of the National Police, of the civil protection service and of other services; victims of Nazi persecution. Students and pupils have a 50% discount, children from 6 to 14 - 25%.
Vouchers and certificates
Free tickets and tickets at a 50% discount for veteran categories are issued in exchange for vouchers from a voucher sheet. A voucher without the certificate and a certificate without the voucher are both invalid; a voucher torn out by anybody other than the cashier is invalid too.
Outward vouchers are valid for departure until 31 December of the current year, return vouchers until 31 January of the following year.
No commission is charged on tickets issued in exchange for vouchers. On discounted tickets issued against certificates, without vouchers, it is charged on the ordinary basis.
Escorts
The escort of a person with a group I disability, or of a child with a disability, enjoys the concession only while accompanying them. If a child with a disability is under 6 and travels without a seat of their own, the concession ticket is issued to the escort alone. If a person with a group I visual disability is accompanied by a child, the child is given the escort's discount.
A guide dog travels free in a carriage of any category - Animals on board.
What can be booked with us
In the booking form there is a "Concession" category for each seat. It is passed to the UZ system and the carrier works out the discount. Bring the original document establishing the entitlement with you: without it you will not be let into the carriage, and that will not be grounds for a refund.
Free tickets against vouchers cannot be issued online. The voucher is physically torn out by the cashier, so those are obtained at a ticket office. Travel on a single ticket for orphaned children is likewise arranged at a ticket office.
Specially fitted carriages and assistance at the station for people with disabilities are arranged by UZ itself - details on uz.gov.ua.
